My favourite mobile gaming setup this holiday season with AVP

I’ve found myself loving this gaming setup during the holidays. Apple Vision Pro + Steam Deck + PS5 controller.
I can take any PC game with me on the go and project it onto AVP as a large screen using Steam Link. The controller is not required but I do find it more ergonomic holding it than the Steam Deck itself.

The setup doesn’t require any existing Wi-fi network. You can simply tether your AVP and Steam Deck to your iPhone and Steam Link will connect them both.
I usually leave my Steam Deck and iPhone in my backpack and just take out the controller and AVP to start playing. Extremely portable and unmatched immersion.
Here I try to demonstrate that surprisingly there is 0 latency perceivable. Note how synchronized my fingers are and the movement of the character (ignore the weird invisible PS5 controller that got erased as part of the occlusion).
Anyway thought I’ll share with you this setup because many have asked me before what is the best way to game on the AVP.
"Apple is already working on visionOS 3" -- they've been working on it for a while and release new OSs for all major products annually. So this isn't a surprise. Nor is the codename: Discovery. (macOS 16 is Cheer, iOS 19 is Luck, watchOS 12 is Nepali, tvOS 19 is Charisma).

Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset is probably one of the coolest devices that the company has released in over a decade. The quality of the images you see through its twin displays is difficult to discern from reality, and the ability to add virtual elements to your real world is quite incredible.
I’ve been using the Vision Pro now for a few weeks and I’m still amazed every time I put it on. Though most of the time I use it, I’m either sitting at my desk or on the sofa. So, when the magazine editor set me a challenge to wear it for a day, I jumped at the challenge.
This wasn’t about not taking the headset off for 24 hours – that’s not practical, and certainly would get uncomfortable. Instead, I used the Vision Pro for each element throughout my daily routine, to see how it could help.

My biggest criticism with visionOS right now is the experience of showing this incredible piece of technology to non-tech folks. Just this Christmas, I was reminded of that again. I often wished that I had more control over what people were seeing and could offer more support and help in navigating throughout visionOS.
So, I collected some of the most important controls I would like to have while giving demos in Guest Mode and drafted this little concept for a redesigned Screen Sharing Experience. This would allow you to control the devices volume, set environments, launch and lock apps, choose from the Apple TV+ library, and much more.
Reducing the time that goes into explaining the UI and giving us more time for the awesome experiences that this device offers is a no-brainer in my opinion and should be seen as a high priority for Apple. Demos are the most important thing in making the device better understood by more and more people.
