Why Vision Pro is Appleโs best reason yet to bring Touch ID back to iPhone (9to5mac)
Vision Pro made me instantly miss Touch ID on iPhone
Vision Pro is perhaps Appleโs most advanced technological achievement.
Yet very shortly after buying this โspatial computer,โ I immediately wanted Apple to bring a piece of legacy tech back: Touch ID.
Why?
Because Face ID on iPhone does no good when Vision Pro is strapped to your faceโan unfortunate detail Iโm reminded of every time I use visionOS.
Apple Vision Pro shipment soared 211% in Q3 2024 compared to the launch quarter (source)
Apple captured 9% of the AR and VR market in 2024 Q3
Appleโs Vision Pro shipments doubled QoQ following its international launch in China, Europe, and APAC. However, Appleโs recovery is expected to be short-lived, with a sequential decline expected in Q4 2024 as the initial international market hype diminishes. Counterpoint expects international sales to account for nearly 90% of Appleโs total shipments in H2 2024.
3D dancer perform on my desk with Holoplay on Vision Pro (source)
Holograms arenโt sci-fi anymore.
Just watched a 3D dancer perform on my desk with Holoplay on Vision Pro.
Who needs TikTok when youโve got dancing holograms?
MoviePass made a film trailer app for the Oculus Quest and Apple Vision Pro (source)
If you're a cinephile who misses the old Apple TV app for movie trailers, MoviePass CEO Stacy Spikes knows your pain. So he decided to build a trailer app of his own, one that could easily help viewers keep track of upcoming films. But the MoviePass Screening Room isn't heading to Apple TV devices and set-top boxes โ instead, Spikes quietly launched it in VR for the Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro.
"I'm in VR all the time," Spikes told Engadget in an interview. "And when I saw how beautiful the imagery was in the Vision Pro, and I know Meta is going to catch up pretty quick on optics, I just said 'This is a great way to watch movie trailers.'"
Apple Vision Pro 2 release date expectations, price estimates and upgrades (source)
Since its release, we've been hearing about the Cupertino company's struggles to decide whether it should continue its mixed-reality endeavours, and how.
In this page we'll gather all the notable information we have on the potentially-upcoming Apple Vision Pro 2, so stay tuned for updates!
What we know so far:
It will be upgraded to the Apple M5 processor
It will get Apple Intelligence
It will retain the same design and price as the original Vision Pro
Immersive 360 Video Was Shot on a $73,000 Spatial Camera
You can stream this immersive 360 video (3D 360) on Spatial Film with Apple Vision Pro: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spatial-film/id6670564820?platform=vision
You can also download the MV-HEVC 360 video and watch it directly on your AVP without streaming for even smoother playback (also free): https://www.patreon.com/posts/3d-360-vs-180-is-120065596
This camera, priced at nearly three times the cost of a Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, captures the full 360ยฐ in immersive mode. It also features interchangeable lenses, enabling it to shoot up to 20K 30fps immersive plates for high-end virtual production, such as car plates for commercials.
Immersive 360 is a concept weโre exploring to elevate immersive 180 to the next levelโa world where viewers are fully surrounded by high-quality, HDR, 3D visuals. Achieving this level of immersion requires significant bandwidth; for example, 16K resolution must be downscaled to 8K to accommodate the height required for top-and-bottom 3D.
This project is an experiment to push the boundaries of storytelling. With this quality now achievable, weโre curiousโwill it catch Appleโs attention? Letโs discuss!
Apple Vision Pro Gains Enterprise-Grade XR Streaming Capability โ CES 25 (source)
Another piece of CES news this week: among all the big announcements and innovations, XR streaming solutions provider Innoactive announced a new product partnership with Apple and NVIDIA to introduce a streaming service between Omniverse and Apple Vision Pro.
The move enables NVIDIA Omniverse developers to stream their Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) workflows to an Apple Vision Pro headset.
Innoactive announced NVIDIA spatial streaming for Omniverse at CES this week, aiming to continue immersive industry-wide advancements in streaming technology, which allows headsets to display high-quality 3D models and experiences.
This is a massive leap for the industry. If wireless streaming continues its uptick, the ability to stream more complex services onto increasingly small-end devices could prove paradigm-shifting for the AR/VR/MR hardware market.
The streaming platform notably features support for streaming digital twin-related workflows to Apple Vision Pro devices, in a move which seems to parallel NVIDIAโs usage of Apple products in its simulation and robotics fields.
Apple TV Multiview in visionOS (source)
Multiview lets fans watch up to five different MLS Season Pass and โFriday Night Baseballโ games at the same time on the Apple TV app. Choose a main view and up to four others and switch between them. Even resize the entire layout.

FormaXR on Vision Pro lets you walk around your European apartment (source)
Real estate is about to change forever!
FormaXR on Vision Pro lets you walk around your European apartment before you even move in.
The immersion is so real, you forget youโre not actually there. I highly recommend it.
Popular interior design app Planner5D is now available on AVP (source)
The popular interior design app @Planner5D is now available on Apple Vision Pro! This companion app, which is my Vision Pro App of the Day, truly makes you feel like you can step into the future of interior design.
Even if you donโt have the app on your Mac, you can explore their six sample roomsโwhich is already a breathtaking experience. My video doesnโt even come close to capturing just how incredible it feels to stick your head through a wall and see whatโs inside the room!

Apple has invented an adjustable light-blocking nosepiece system for future Vision Pro (source)
A new Apple patent application covers ah HMD (head-mounted device) that may include a main housing unit, at least one display in the main housing unit, and a nosepiece coupled to the main housing unit. The nosepiece may be a light-shielding structure that includes rigid members, flexible members, and/or fabric members. The nosepiece may be removably coupled to the housing, such as with magnets.
The nosepiece may include an adjustable portion to change a curvature of the nosepiece and conform to a user's nose. The adjustable portion may be formed from a central portion of the nosepiece that can be loosened and tightened with respect to a peripheral portion of the nosepiece.
New Jenga like app on AVP (source)
This is... BIG! The days of playing boring, old, and small Jenga might finally be over with todayโs Vision Pro app, "BIG" by @heykookyjar. This app reimagines the classic game in a gigantic form, placing it right in the middle of your space. It even supports multiplayer over SharePlay on FaceTime.
Apple invents another Adjustable Headband System for Future Vision-Pro Headsets (source)
Apple notes in their patent application that in some embodiments, it may be desirable to incorporate headbands that can contact the user's head in multiple locations while the head-mounted device is worn. The headbands may include a lower headband that is in contact with a portion of the back of the user's head and an upper headband. The upper and/or lower headbands may be adjustable.
For example, the upper and/or lower headbands may pivot so that the upper and lower headbands can contact different portions of the user's head. In an illustrative example, the lower headband may contact a lower rear portion of the user's head, while the upper headband is movable between a front portion of the user's head (e.g., the user's forehead) and an upper rear portion of the user's head. To allow the upper and/or lower headbands to be adjusted in this way, the headbands may be attached to a head-mounted support structure via a pivoting structure, such as a friction hinge.
