Trip down the memory lane
With only 1 day left to go before WWDC 2024, I thought it would be fun to revisit all the cool moments from WWDC 2023 when Apple Vision Pro was first announced!

This week’s updates
WWDC Leaked Video and Apple Vision Pro (Bloomberg)
The AI features will account for about half of Apple’s WWDC keynote presentation, which starts at 10 a.m. Pacific time and typically runs for roughly two hours.
While there aren’t any specific Apple Vision Pro features leaked, there are a few relevant leaked features that will almost certainly be launched on AVP along other platforms.
A major component of the AI push is summarization. Apple is planning features that can quickly recap articles and web pages in the Safari browser. They’ll also be able to sum up meetings notes, text messages and emails. And Apple is planning a catch-up feature for missed notifications, allowing users to quickly absorb what they missed when they weren’t looking at their phones.
Since notifications aren’t handle well in AVP, I can see this feature being useful in AVP.
Another part of this is reply suggestions. The iPhone will be able to automatically create fully fleshed-out responses to emails and text messages on behalf of the user.
Useful feature since text input also not a strong suit for AVP.
Siri will be a part of the new AI push as well, with Apple planning a revamp to its voice-control service based on large language models — a core technology behind generative AI. For the first time, Siri users will be able to have precise control over individual features and actions within apps. For instance, people will be able to tell Siri to delete an email, edit a photo or summarize a news article. Over time, Apple will expand this to third-party apps and allow users to string multiple commands together into a single request. These features are unlikely to arrive until next year, however.
Another great feature even if just for Mail/Photos/iMessage app only for now. Taps are not perfect, and hands can sometimes be occupied. If this feature is indeed in AVP I can see them including actions for Apple TV app which is handy as well.
The Mail app is getting a big upgrade as well. It will include a Gmail-like feature that automatically categorizes incoming messages.
Another feature I can see them including for AVP’s Mail app.
One feature that will likely get a lot of attention among Gen Z — and perhaps the rest of the population — will be AI-created emoji. This will use AI to create custom emoji characters on the fly that represent phrases or words as they’re being typed. That means there will be many more options than the ones in the standardized emoji library that has long been built into the iPhone.
Emoji is almost certainly going to be cross platform (including AVP) since Apple will certainly not use placeholders. So at a minimum we can display the new emojis in AVP. But hopefully the creation can be done on AVP as well.
AI is coming to the Photos app as well, which will embed new capabilities into photo editing. That will make it easier to enhance an image or remove a person or object from the frame.
Not holding my breath for this one as the Photo app is already very behind feature-wise from the iOS Photo app but 🤞.
Apple is launching a Passwords app for iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 that will offer an alternative to the 1Password and LastPass services. This will essentially be an app version of the company’s long-existing iCloud Keychain feature, which is currently hidden in the Settings app.
I am pretty confident about this one since this is relatively a new app. A high likelihood that it’s implemented in SwiftUI which makes it cross platform by default.
The company has revamped the Calculator app and is bringing it to the iPad for the first time. On the iPad and Mac, the app will use the same overall interface — with round buttons — as the existing iPhone version.
Similar to the above, new apps launched going forward is very likely to include AVP.

Shipments to non-U.S. markets, mainly the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan, and Singapore, are set to begin before the middle of this month (later than previously predicted before the 2024 WWDC). The 2024 global shipment estimate remains unchanged at 400,000 to 450,000 units.
Apple patent application revives rumours of iPhone successor
The nominal position allows any gaps exposing the electronics hidden inside the frame and the arms to be closed. Apple says that a cable or electrical connector can extend through a portion of the hinge to guide the cable through the electronic parts in the arm and frame. Make no mistake about it, the constant use of the term "eyewear" in the patent means that this hinge is intended for Apple's smart glasses.
