Apple Vision Pro Long-Term Review: Why Now Is A Great Time To Jump On Board (Forbes)
Apple Vision Pro: Verdict
The Vision Pro is an exciting, magnificently executed new way to watch films, handle calls, surf the web, play games, stream sports, type an email, check out a new recipe and more. Everything you do on your laptop, phone and tablet but revealed in a whole new and immersive way. I feel my pulse quickening every time I put it on: it feels like the future.
Should you buy one? It’s certainly tempting, and this is the best time to climb aboard. The next software release, visionOS 2 is just around the corner, the app numbers are soaring and it’s getting better all the time.
Apple Vision Pro post-hype: Consider this before buying the spatial computer (BGR)
Ultimately, I would say Apple Vision Pro is the perfect entertainment device, except for the fact that you never forget you are wearing it. Also, the best videos available on this spatial computer are those that really put you in the center of the experience. Apple TV immersive videos were the highlight of my usage, especially because they felt like Disney’s Soaring attraction.
Apple Vision Pro review: awesome technology – but what will you use it for? (Telegraph)
Conclusion: Is the Apple Vision Pro worth it?
There’s a lot to love about Apple’s Vision Pro and there’s no taking away from the excellence of the technology inside. From the 3D Micro-OLED display system putting 11.5 million pixels of detail per eye (more than a 4K TV in each), to the multitude of cameras allowing for video passthrough and sensing your movements. There’s plenty to impress even the most cynical user.

‘Google Earth VR’ Spiritual Successor Brings Earth-scale Exploration to Quest & Vision Pro (source)
Fly aims to bring the magic of exploring Google Earth in 3D in a fully immersive way. Beyond just being able to explore the globe to your heart’s content, Fly aims for a more immersive feel than its spiritual predecessor. While the original Google Earth VR essentially had you floating around as a disembodied camera, Fly is thematically built around the idea that players are piloting a drone that can take them anywhere.
Ultrawide screen mac mirror enabled on latest MacOS beta (source)
You need the latest Sequoia beta for this enabled. And this is not the exact same curved wide screen feature as shown in visionOS2 but still an improvement.
Apple invents Virtual Stores for Vision Pro that will allow users to run product demos, check out new product features (source)
In February 2024, Patently Apple posted an IP report titled "Apple has filed for their Third Patent regarding Shopping in a Virtual Apple Store for Vision Pro, iPad and Macs." If Apple could create realistic XR environments where Wildlife is in your living room, as presented below, then Apple could create an Amazing Virtual Apple Store where customers could shop, try out demonstrations, check out new features of the latest Apple products all from within your Vision Pro headset. Of course that could one day extend to Best Buy stores or a Nissan Car dealership and so forth.

9 Takeaways from the Vision Pro After 6 Months (source)
An enormous written piece on AVP after 6 months. Don’t agree with all the points but interesting nonetheless. It's interesting that the whole R&D costs of Apple on XR until now may be more than $20B
Direct allocation may overstate or understate this allocation, though the latter is more likely. XR R&D likely exceeds that on, say, MacBooks or iPads on a dollar-per-patent basis. Apple’s annual R&D spend grew from $8 billion in 2015 to $30 billion in 2023; it’s likely that “most” of the intensive R&D for the Vision Pro took place late during that stretch, in which case it might be more accurate to posit a sliding scale of per-year allocations (e.g., 10% of R&D in 2015, but 50% in 2021). But even if one applies a 30% haircut to the above estimate, that’s still $24 billion! As with Meta’s investments, this sum cannot be exclusively attributed to a single device (e.g., the Vision Pro) as it also includes foundational investments for other XR-related devices and subsequent entries to the Vision line, but the cost to make this first device is doubtless immense.

Vision Pro's GPU focuses solely on rendering your app's content, not the passthrough environment (source)
This is an interesting find I saw from WWDC 2024. This means if you want the maximum performance from your apps/games, turn passthrough on to the max.
Vision Pro's GPU focuses solely on rendering your app's content, not the passthrough environment. This means your app becomes more efficient when it allows more of the real world to show through.
