Apple kicks off blitz of worldwide visionOS developer events (source)
Apple has kicked off a series of developer events centered around helping devs build visionOS apps and content for the Apple Vision Pro, including labs and a four-week workshop.
The series kicked off with a small-scale event focused on Apple Vision Pro and creating software and content for visionOS. The "Envision the Future: Build Great Apps for visionOS" event was held at the Apple Developer Center in Cupertino on October 2, 2024.

New leak claims Apple Vision Pro 2 is headed into mass production, contrary to recent reports (source)
The new M5-powered Vision Pro is expected to enter mass production in 2H25. The main selling point will be the integration of Apple Intelligence with spatial computing. The major hardware change will be the processor upgrade to the M5 (currently M2) to significantly improve computing power and ensure the best Apple Intelligence user experience. Other hardware specs and designs won’t change much, which should help lower costs and price points.

The room color shifts when watching movie in AVP (source)
Apple’s subtlety is unmatched. The room color shifts with the movie, and light reflects perfectly off the sand in Bora Bora.
Inside Out 2 was great in theaters, but it’s even better in 3D on the Vision Pro.
Ask HN: Is anyone working at least 4 hours daily on an Apple Vision Pro? (source)
It's been 8 months since the initial reviews, so I would love to know if anyone has managed to really become productive and comfortable working hours a day on the Apple Vision Pro.
…
karlgkk - Yes, I do. It’s an amazing monitor and combination iPad. It’s very different than what is easy to describe - partially because it defies convention in so many ways - but I use it with my Mac and then will have mail and chat and music floating on the sides.
Btw I said iPad. Apple says it’s a computer. Falls short in some key ways, but not unfixable
It is heavy but I don’t mind it. I can see how that might be a deal breaker.
Btw I honestly think that if apple wants to market this thing as a computer, they need to include a keyboard and trackpad. It adds so much to the utility factor that it’s basically indispensable for me. That it works well without one is testament to apples amazing engineering, but they really should be packing those in imho
These things are going to be killer productivity devices if
- price down. obviously.
- lower weight, better battery
- combo keyboard and mouse accessory offered that fits into a carrying case
- able to host Mac apps, or a Mac vm, or something similar. Let me run vs code, IntelliJ, and a terminal with a local container with my build tools. Or blender. Or photoshop. Etc etc etc
Btw protip, tea tastes fine through a metal straw.
Unofficial YouTube app for the Vision Pro got taken down (source)
Juno, the third-party YouTube app created for the Apple Vision Pro, has been removed from the App Store. In a post on Tuesday, developer Christian Selig said the app was taken down months after Google warned that it violates YouTube’s guidelines.
Why Meta's Orion Prototype Doesn't Render Headsets Like Apple Vision Pro Obsolete (source)
"Steve Jobs would have made Orion instead of Vision Pro".
"Zuckerberg should forget Quest and focus on Orion."
"Orion shows just how much of a mistake Vision Pro was."
Hot takes of this kind have been endless since Mark Zuckerberg revealed Meta's prototype AR glasses, with some even spouted by so-called "analysts". Meta just showed AR that looks like glasses, they argue, so surely Apple was mistaken to make a big bulky headset.
But those takes are completely misguided, and I'll explain why.

I made Step Into Vision as a resource for visionOS developers. But I also made it for myself. I don't even that that much content on the site yet, and I'm already referring to it several times per week.
